It was a great Cannes for Thunderbird Releasing. Continuing my work as an acquisitions consultant for the company, we picked up 3 titles from the Cannes Competition as well as some yet to be announced films.

1. SHOPLIFTERS (Hirokazu Kore-eda)

Extremely excited that Thunderbird acquired Kore-eda's Palme d'Or winning SHOPLIFTERS, it is a beautiful film, and one that will stay with me for a long time. Having previously worked on the re-release of AFTER-LIFE it is great to be reunited with Kore-eda.

2. BURNING (Lee Chang Dong)

The reviews for BURNING were extraordinary, giving it the highest ever average rating on the Screen grid, with a 3.8 out of 4. And more importantly the film lives up to the reviews, it's a stunning and mesmerising film.

3. SORRY ANGEL (Christophe Honoré)

I am a huge fan of Christophe Honoré, having first seen one of his films (and one of my absolute favourites), DANS PARIS back in Cannes in 2006. SORRY ANGEL has all the marks of an Honoré classic, his intelligent script with nods to the nouvelle vague and a band of playful, charismatic characters.
